4v4 +3 Transitional Possession
Simple transitional possession game where teams attempt to keep possession with a focus on switching the ball from one grid to the other.
Description:
The team in possession aims to keep possession with a focus on switching the ball from side to side, while the defending team works to win the ball back. After the possession team complete a specific number of passes they can switch the ball to the side neutral player in the other grid. Once they do that, everyone transitions to that grid and they have to complete a number of passes again before they can switch the ball again. If the team in possession manages to switch the ball from one side neutral player to the other side neutral player they get a point. Team with the most points at the end of the round wins.
Set-up:
Set up 2 adjacent grids with sides 20 x 25 yards.
Players will be divided into 2 teams of 4 with 3 neutral players (2 side players & 1 central player)
Players work for a total of 5 Rounds - 2 minute each rep. Rotate the neutral players every rep.
If the ball goes out of play, the coach plays a new ball in.
Progressions:
Increase pass limit - 5 passes, 7 passes etc.
Add touch limit to players - 2 Touch, 1 Touch etc.
Coaching Points:
Movement - Can you find space and provide a passing lane for your teammate?
Positioning - Can we have some width & depth? How does this help us move the ball easier? Angles, third man runs etc.
Passing - Are you playing pass to your teammate that they could pass first time if they were under pressure? Are you playing passes to your teammates safe side? (What is their safe side?)
Body shape and movement - Do you have multiple passing options based on your first touch? Open Body shape?
Decision Making - When to play quickly & when to slow the play down.
